JATIS 2025 PRIMA Special Issue
Invitation to Submit Papers to a JATIS Special Issue on the PRIMA Far-Infrared Probe Concept

August 19, 2024

Dear Colleague,

The PRobe Infrared Mission for Astrophysics (PRIMA) cordially invites the science community to contribute papers to the upcoming special issue in the Journal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments, and Systems (JATIS). This is a unique opportunity to publish detailed and refereed science cases enabled by PRIMA’s far-infrared observations.

PRIMA is a proposed cryogenically cooled far-infrared (FIR) observatory submitted to NASA's 2023 call for Astrophysics Explorers (APEX) and planned to operate in the 2030s. PRIMA will trace the astrochemical signatures of planet formation, probe the co-evolution of galaxies and their supermassive black holes across cosmic time, and measure the formation and buildup of galaxies, heavy elements, and interstellar dust from the first galaxies to today.

PRIMA will also address a wide range of astrophysics, from the solar system to cosmology, and at least 75% of its observing time will be available for General Observers (GO). Many of these science cases are highlighted in the PRIMA GO book. Special issue papers should discuss how science objectives are addressed by the PRIMA concept design, and related instrumental parameters and sensitivities are provided on the PRIMA website.

The deadline for submissions to the PRIMA special issue is November 1, 2024. More details on the special issue call are available on the JATIS website. Please contact us (pontoppi@caltech.edu) with any questions or assistance, and feel free to coordinate your paper with the editorial team prior to submission.
